It’s so, so twisted and beyond messed up. I love Texas, I really, really do (hell, I dedicated a whole blog to it) but we’re seriously backwards in some areas where we really can’t afford to be.

TRIGGER WARNING: RAPE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, MISOGYNY
Hahaha oh my God. Ohhh jeeze. Women* who are having abortions know what they are aborting. Women* realize that when they have an abortion, they are removing cells from their body that may, if normal gestation were an option for her*, be a viable infant outside of the womb. Can you read, anon? I hope you can because this is why you’re 100%, factually, categorically WRONG: http://www.legis.state.tx.us/billlookup/text.aspx?LegSess=80R&Bill=HB15. Women* in Texas who seek abortions DO have to undergo a transvaginal ultrasound. This is NOT the jelly on the belly ultrasound that you might be thinking of. This is where a wand is inserted FORCIBLY (yes, anon, anything against someone’s will is FORCIBLE) into a woman’s* vagina, regardless of circumstance. That means that if a woman is seeking an abortion due to rape or incest, she has to relive the traumatic experience again by having something forcibly inserted into her body. Moreover, a transvaginal ultrasound is NOT necessary for a safe abortion. Can you name any other instance where someone has to undergo a medical procedure that is completely superfluous before they undergo a different procedure? If you can, I’d love to hear it. In Texas, your option is this: “Let me insert this wand into your vagina or no abortion for you. Oh, this will be a traumatic experience for you because you’re a survivor of sexual assault? Ok, no abortion for you. Enjoy carrying your rapist’s child to term!” This is reprehensible in all cases, even when women are not victims of rape or incest. Women seeking abortions are informed. They know what they’re doing. Most of them ALREADY have children. Did you know that, anon? Do you know Texas’ definition of rape, anon? This is one part of the definition: “(a) A person commits an offense: if the person intentionally or knowingly causes the penetration of the anus or sexual organ of another person by any means, without that person’s consent.” BY ANY MEANS. That means forcing women to undergo transvaginal ultrasounds is, according to Texas law, technically rape. Maybe you should check your facts before you message me with your ignorant, sexist (yes, it’s sexist to imply that a woman* doesn’t know what is growing in her uterus), bullshit.
Also fuck you and fuck off forever.

(TP Note: Not necessarily a Texas problem if you’re from Texas, but definitely relevant.)
There will be more tomorrow after the SOPA/PIPA strike since I have my computer working again.
